Nine people were injured in a knife attack on a passenger train in Tokyo on Friday, and a criminal was arrested shortly after he escaped and surrendered, local media reported.
This type of violence is very rare in Japan, and the attack comes as the country’s capital, the host city of the Olympic Games, is on high alert.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a passenger train in the Chetkaya district of western Tokyo. A woman in her twenties was seriously injured, according to public broadcaster NHK, citing emergency services.
The site of the attack is a few kilometers from the equestrian Olympic site.
