LTo curb the number of new cases, the Austrian president announced on Sunday that locks for people who have not been vaccinated or who have not been cured will go into effect on Monday.
“The situation is serious (…). We did not take this step lightly, but unfortunately it is necessary,” Alexander Shalenberg told a news conference in Vienna.
About 65% of people received both doses of the vaccine in Austria, which is lower than the European average of 67% and far from countries such as Belgium (75%), Spain (79%) or France (75%).
Ensure that the persons concerned have no right to leave their home, except for shopping, sports or medical care. This measure applies from the age of 12.
Unannounced tests will be carried out.
Health Minister Wolfgang Mukstein said on Sunday that the government would assess the effect of these restrictions within 10 days, calling on those who are ineffective to be vaccinated soon.
Parliament must approve the move in the evening, a simple method.
The country of 9.8 million people recorded more than 13,000 new cases on Saturday, the highest since the outbreak began.
