During the opening ceremony of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), a pre-recorded video message was broadcast to the public along with speeches by other world leaders.

In this speech, Charles Michael criticizes Russia’s “illegal war” in Ukraine, from which Europe can learn “important lessons”. China, you can help end this situation.”, we can read in the text published by the Reuters press agency? Charles Michael urged China to become less economically dependent on China.

However, Chinese authorities decided not to broadcast the speech, which was considered too critical. The information surprised the diplomats. “President Michael was invited to address the ceremony”Charles Michael’s spokesman, Barent Letts, confirmed. “As requested by the Chinese authorities, we provided a pre-recorded message, which was ultimately not broadcast. We discussed it through normal diplomatic channels.”
