Geographically, the films were filmed at the Mari El Prison Center in the Autonomous Russian Republic. However, it is not known who posted these images and several possibilities are being considered.
The recruiter may be Yevgeny Prigozhin, a businessman close to Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Russian oligarch, also known as “Putin’s Leader”, is also suspected of financing the Kremlin-backed Wagner militia.

In the films, the recruiter, claiming to represent the militants, offers prisoners a pardon in exchange for six months of service, and invites them to give their response within five minutes. Once they’re accepted, they have three rules to follow: no leaving, no drugs or alcohol, and no looting.
“Anyone who steps forward and retreats from day one will be considered a fugitive and shot,” he said in the video, adding that they must not go back to prison after six months.
