A man armed with a bow and arrows killed and wounded several others before being arrested by police in Kansberg, southeastern Norway on Wednesday.
“We can confirm that unfortunately many were injured and unfortunately many were killed”, A local police officer, Sivind Ass, said during a press conference.
“The person who committed this act was arrested by the police. According to our information, there is only one person.”, He added.
The motives for the attacks in several places in Kansberg have not yet been determined.
Police did not provide details of the suspect, except for one person who was taken to a police station in the nearby town of Drumman.
“No search to find others”, Said Ivind Ass.
According to TV2, the man had a knife and / or several other weapons.
The injured were admitted to hospital. Their number or their status is not immediately known.
The incident took place at 6.30pm (4.30pm) in the city of Kansberg.
On Twitter, local police said they noticed a person armed with a bow and arrows and used them to target people.
The arrow hit a wall
The public is invited to stay at home. Several neighborhoods were cordoned off, and television footage showed a large number of armed police forces and ambulances parked.
A helicopter and demining team were also dispatched.
Internal Intelligence Services (BST) have been alerted.
The NRK public broadcaster showed a photo sent by a witness on his website with a black arrow firmly stuck in the wall.
In the past, Norway, a traditionally peaceful country, has been the target of far-right attacks.
On July 22, 2011, a bomb exploded near a government seat in Oslo, killing at least 77 people before firing on a workers’ youth rally on the island of Andias Behring Breivik Usya.
In August 2019, Philip Manshas was shot dead in a mosque near Oslo. He had previously racially abused his foster Asian-born sister.
Many plans for Islamic attacks were thwarted.
The local police are scheduled to hold another press conference at 10:00 pm (8:00 pm GMT).
