Russia has blatantly violated international civil aviation rules by forcing the re-registration of hundreds of aircraft leased from foreign companies into the Russian aviation register, MEPs condemned on Thursday.
“Such theft is intolerable,” they added, demanding an immediate return of the aircraft to their original owners. In a lengthy article published in late March, La Libre condemned the behavior “Century breakdown in Russian skies” .
The commission has already listed Russian carriers operating these re-registered planes as EU-banned aircraft, arguing that Russian authorities have failed to check and monitor the planes.
“If these aircraft are allowed to fly in Russian airspace without guaranteeing the necessary security requirements, the Russian authorities will be solely responsible for endangering the lives of their own citizens,” the resolution said.
The text calls on the EU to strengthen its sanctions against the Russian maritime sector and refuse to allow ships entering Russian ports to enter EU ports. In addition, ships wishing to anchor in EU ports should be barred from refueling in Russian ports.
