Ukrainian president calls for policy on ‘pacification’ of Western end towards Russia, proposes meeting with Putin

“Ukraine received security guarantees when it gave up its nuclear weapons, which is the third largest in the world. We have no weapons. We have no security. In Munich, Volodymyr Zhelensky called Ukraine “Europe’s shield” against the Russian military, calling on the West to increase its assistance.

“We appreciate any assistance, but everyone should understand: these are not charitable contributions that Ukraine should ask for (…) this is your contribution to the security of Europe and the world. Ukraine has been a shield for eight years,” he said.

Ukraine is also demanding a “clear” timetable for its NATO members.

Meeting with Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky has proposed meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is at a time when fears of a Russian invasion of Ukraine are high. “I do not know what the Russian president wants, which is why we recommend meeting,” he told a Munich security conference.

The European Union (EU) announced on Saturday that it was coordinating humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and airlifting Kiev’s requested medical supplies and safety equipment.

The European Union (EU) said in a statement that the aid was aimed at “supporting Ukraine’s efforts to prepare for all possible circumstances.”

This assistance includes disposable medical masks, sterile gloves, electric generators, antibiotics and disinfectants provided by Slovenia, Ireland, Romania and Austria.
