War in Ukraine: “drone attack” in Crimea, fighting south of Mykolaiv

“We still have three places (to be taken) on the Kinborn Peninsula,” regional governor Vitaly Kim said on Tuesday, before fully liberating the Mykolaiv (southern) region.

On Monday, a spokeswoman for the Ukrainian military’s Southern Command, Natalya Koumeniuk, said that “a military operation on the Kinbornska Peninsula is currently underway ‘in a peaceful manner’.”

“We are continuing combat operations. As soon as the result comes, we will report it,” he said, without giving further details about the ongoing hostilities.

The Ukrainian army captured the last three villages in the Mykolaiv region from Russian hands, days after driving Moscow troops out of the then-occupied main city of Kherson, marking an important victory for Kiev.

These three small areas are geographically a few kilometers in front of southern Ukraine, which is controlled by Kew, at the tip of a strip of land located at the end of the left bank of the Dnieper.

Russia seized the area in the early days of its invasion of Ukraine in late February.

Crimea was attacked by a drone

Ukraine’s Russian-controlled Crimean peninsula was targeted by a drone strike on Tuesday, with Kremlin-backed officials saying Russian forces were on “high alert” there.

“There is an attack by drones,” Mikhail Rasvozhayev, the governor of the Moscow-founded Sevastopol administrative region of Crimea, said in a telegram. “Our air defense forces are working now.”
