UA “mass grave” was discovered in the town of Isium, which was recaptured from the Russians a few days ago, as part of a Ukrainian counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region (east), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Thursday evening.
“We want the world to know what caused the Russian aggression,” he said, without giving the number of those buried or the causes of their deaths. “We should get more verified and clear information tomorrow,” said Mr. Zelensky said in his daily video address.
Regional police officer Sergey Botvinov told Sky News that a burial ground containing about 440 graves had been discovered in Izium.
Some of the dead were shot while others died in shelling, he added.
For his part, Mr. Zelensky compared Isium to the cities of Bucha and Mariupol, which have become symbols of the atrocities of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
“Russia is leaving death everywhere. And she must answer. The world needs Russia to be held accountable for this war. We will do everything we can to do that,” he said.
