Tragedy struck the WBTV crew Tuesday when a helicopter crash in Charlotte, North Carolina killed weatherman Jason Myers and pilot Chip Tyack.

The two were flying in a Robinson R44 when they crashed on the I-77 freeway. Police and witnesses praised the pilot for successfully avoiding the road during the crash.

Host Jason Myers leaves behind his wife and four children. Chip Dayak has been a pilot for over 20 years and has been working at WBTV since 2017.

Officials are currently investigating the cause of the accident, which caused traffic jams till evening.
