Wreckage from a plane that crashed in the Swiss Alps in 1968 has been found in a glacier 54 years later, police said Friday.
The remains of the device appeared on the Aletsch Glacier in the southwest of the Wallis Zone, near the Jungfrau and Mönch peaks. Valais police said the wreckage was discovered on Thursday.
“Investigations have confirmed that the wreckage is from a Piper Cherokee registered HB-OYL that crashed at this location on June 30, 1968. Rescue operations will be carried out as soon as possible.“, the police said in a statement.
